Village Update: Jul/Aug 2021

Crossroads for Women fulfilled a longstanding goal and purchased a new building earlier this year called Crossroads Village. The full vision of Crossroads Village consists of a three-phase plan which will be funded and implemented within a five-year goal. To keep our community and supporters informed of the progress of this vision, we are introducing a recurring segment of our bi-monthly newsletter called the Village Update. Through this segment, we plan to publish updates about the fundraising efforts of Crossroads Village and share with you through pictures, videos, and in-person invitations the progress of the building’s transformation.

This initiative is especially exciting because this is the first time in Crossroads’ history that the organization has owned its own building, and the acquisition of this property has more than doubled the working space for CRFW staff and community members. Before it was a part of Crossroads, the building served as the location for both a behavioral health facility on the northside of the structure and a senior home on the southside.

The northside of Crossroads Village serves as the headquarters for the downtown Crossroads program and hosts the offices for program staff and administration for the organization. Because this space was converted from an old behavioral health facility, renovations are needed to transform the sterile, hospital-like environment into a vibrant, inviting space where our community members can feel welcomed and proud of their program. These renovations include improvements to five key areas: the vocational classroom, the family wing, the community kitchen, the common area and event space, and the donation center. Each of these areas is an important part of the future of Crossroads Village and the planned changes to these spaces will impact community members for years to come. As part of the Village Update, we will dive into these changes, and illustrate the renovations proposed and the vision for the complete projects.

The southside of Crossroads Village is currently uninhabited and needs substantial renovations to fulfill the vision of having a therapeutic community at this location. These renovations will make up the greatest portion of our fundraising needs and time to complete the needed changes. However, when the southside of the building is complete, it will mean many of Crossroads staff and community members will be under one roof, strengthening our ability to provide wraparound, gender-specific, and trauma-informed services in a more efficient and community-focused way.

We are so excited to begin this years-in-the-making initiative, and we hope you are excited to walk with us as we bring to life the vision of providing an environment that meets the needs of the community members we serve.
