Showing Up For The LGBTQIA Community

Crossroads staff and community members pose for a photo at this year’s Pride Parade.

For the second year in a row, Crossroads participated in the Albuquerque Pride Parade!  We were honored to walk with over 100 organizations and show our support for the LGBTQIA community!

With this year’s theme of, “Your Pride is Showing,” we spent several weeks planning the design of our float. We asked community members to decorate paper butterflies as these would line two inflatable rainbows that were attached to our trailer. Our goal was to represent the individuality of our community members and to showcase how far they’ve come. We also wanted to highlight the joy and love that can be shared in a community. Crossroads graduates and staff rode on the hitch waving to the crowd and blowing bubbles, while others walked alongside the float and handed out Crossroads flyers, candy, and stickers.

Although we did not win the $1000 prize for best float, we kept up the high energy throughout the parade and made our presence known. It was amazing to see the Albuquerque community show their support for the LGBTQIA community. We can’t wait for next year!
