Crossroads Goes To The Roundhouse

ACLU NM, Bold Futures, Crossroads for Women staff and community members, volunteers, and Representative Micaela Lara Cadena at the Roundhouse

On March 13, Crossroads for Women staff and community members spent the day at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe for Smart Justice Day of Action with our friends at Bold Futures and ACLU NM.

Weeks leading up to the visit, ACLU NM and Bold Futures had been working hard with our community members to prepare them for the day. There were several key bills at this year’s legislative session that had major potential impact to our community.

Crossroads staff and community members spent part of the morning workshopping with Bold Future’s Policy Co-Director, LuzHilda Campos.  In what could seem like a daunting task, Crossroads community members were up for the challenge of reaching out to various lawmakers throughout the Roundhouse and asking for their support on the bills. This was an opportunity for community members to use their voice and share their stories.

The status of bills that we supported include SB 64: No life Sentence for Juveniles, HB 139: Eliminating Court Fees, and SB 47: Driver’s License Suspension Penalties. While the status of bills we opposed were HB 74: Pretrial Detention Hearings and HB 60: Enhanced Sentencing for Fentanyl

Crossroads for Women was recognized during the House of Representatives and Senate House sessions.

Thank you to Bold Futures and ACLU NM for the work that you do and for supporting our community.
