It’s no surprise that our Back-to-School Resource Fair is one of our favorite events of the year. It’s takes a lot of hard work from our dedicated staff. Between contacting organizations to table at the event, gathering enough backpacks and supplies so no one goes home empty handed, and making sure we have enough pizza. So what’s the pay off? It’s quite simple really. It’s seeing our community members and their families smiling. Knowing that they don’t have to stress over back to school shopping and making sure their kids have everything they need to succeed, is a huge weigh lifted off their shoulders. Quite frankly, it is on ours too.
We rely heavily on the help of our supporters and other organizations to pull this event off. This year, beloved local pizza chain, Dion’s, was able to donate 10 large pizzas for the event! Insurance company, New Mexico Mutual helped us tremendously by donating over 100 backpacks and school supplies for our Backpack & School Supply Drive! We had several generous monetary donations to our Backpack & School Supply Drive campaign, as well as donation drop offs. With all of your help, we were able to hand out over 200 backpacks!
Organizations such as UNM, I9 Sports, Waterford Upstart Program, CABQ Library, and Cennea Thorla Guidry Scholarship Foundation were among the resources that were present for the fair. This event is a great way for our community members to receive readily available resources, all in one place. We were thrilled that we had over 15 organizations that signed up to participate!
