2018 Family BBQ a Great Success Thanks to Community Sponsors and Volunteers

Family BBQ volunteers from Girl Scout Troop #1213

Our annual family BBQ is a long-standing Crossroads for Women tradition. This event supported by community sponsors, volunteers, and staff provides a safe, fun atmosphere for clients to spend time with each other and their families.

This year Girl Scout Troop #1213 and ABQ Evening Optimist Club stepped up as community sponsors. Girl Scout leaders Liz Garcia, Steven Campbell, and Mandy Griego worked together to provide volunteers to setup the event, run activities and games, and clean-up. Special shout outs go to Linda Trujillo for overseeing and serving the delicious meal and the Morton family for leading the setup and take down efforts. In addition to their many hours of labor, the Girl Scouts also donated $200 to purchase food.

Long-time supporters of Crossroads for Women, the ABQ Evening Optimist club led by Leland Yates provided three large shade tents to keep everyone cool on the unusually warm day. They also donated $200 to purchase food for the event. Club member Judy Tyler brought her own supplies and spent the afternoon painting faces for all of the kids in attendance (and even some grown-ups too).

Members of the Crossroads Fundraising Committee also came out to support the event. Grill masters Pat Gutierrez and Crystal Little cooked ALL of the burgers and hot dogs for the second year in a row. Leah Tiemann and Karen Hyzer provided all of the fixings for a root beer float stand for the fourth year in a row.

Additional volunteers who supported the event included representatives from Native American Professional Parenting Resources (NAPPR) who tabled the event and Caroline Segura who provided an extra shade tent and helped our resource development team unload supplies.

A big thank you to all of our community sponsors and volunteers for making this a great event for our clients and their families!
